One of many memorable shots taken at Hearst Castle. This one was a neat doorway as it had two arches and they are only about 5' tall. (You had to be pretty short to use them)

Found this delicate paper wasp nest while walking in the woods. Notice the egg chambers inside. This was so delicate I feared crushing it accidentally so after taking the shot I gently set it back where I found it.

Newly hatched. They were a little late, so when the mother left the nest with their 5 siblings I intervened. They would have died otherwise. The one to the left that is still in the shell, but has pipped hatched the following morning. By that evening all were dry and active so I mixed them in with the rest of the brood. Everybody is happy! (the egg in the upper left never hatched)
